"It's Tough For Him To Win" — Says Azmin Ali's Brother After Voting For Someone Else
Diva AA said "chances are slim" for his elder brother to win the Hulu Kelang state seat today, 12 August.
Controversial celebrity Diva AA, or Azwan Ali, said chances are slim for his elder brother, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, to win the Hulu Kelang state seat in Selangor
Azwan was among the first people who voted at the SK Klang Gate polling centre today, 12 August. He woke up at 4.30am and arrived at the polling centre at 7am this morning, reported Utusan Malaysia.
According to The Star, the television actor and host said he did not vote for Azmin, explaining, "The bond by blood does not determine (my choice)".
Speaking to Sin Chew Daily today, Azwan said it does not matter if Azmin wins the state seat, but "the chances are slim (as) the competition is too fierce".
Azwan also took the opportunity to share that Azmin had never attempted to reconcile the relationship between them
"Even though I had made many attempts to reach out to him (Azmin), but [I] was written off.
"We want capable leaders. It should not be determined by blood relationship. (We vote for) someone we can ascertain their capabilities to govern," The Star quoted him as saying.
Prior to the 15th General Elections (GE15), in early November last year, Azwan said he would contest against Azmin for the Gombak parliamentary seat, only to withdraw his plan the next day, reported New Straits Times.
However, Azwan did contest in GE14 against his brother for the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat, but lost.
When asked about the coincident of him being among the first to vote at where his brother is contesting, Azwan said, "Surprisingly, this is his first time standing in Hulu Kelang after years of being a 'somebody'. But that's his business."
In GE15, Azmin lost his Gombak parliamentary seat to his successor, caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari
He is currently is up against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli, who is also the aide of Amirudin.
In 1999, Azmin won the Hulu Kelang seat under PKR following the imprisonment of then deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1998 when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the prime minister.
Azmin is currently the Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson. He joined Bersatu, a component party in PN, in August 2022 after his instrumental role in bringing down the PH administration during the 2020 political crisis, dubbed the "Sheraton Move".
