Today, 9 May, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah didn't hold his daily press briefing about Malaysia's COVID-19 situation

According to him, he and his team were given the opportunity to take a break "after working tirelessly since December 2019 in response to the Ministry of Health's response to COVID-19".

The Health D-G, wearing his black jacket carrying the Ministry of Health's logo, has become a source of direct information for millions of Malaysians, who look forward to his press briefings.

Dr Noor and his team's break today marked the first time the doctor has gone off the air since the second wave of COVID-19 infections began on 27 February.

MOH instead issued a statement announcing the latest numbers

Today, the Ministry of Health recorded 54 new COVID-19 cases. Of which, 53 are local infections.

There was one new death reported today.

It's the first death reported in three days, bringing the death toll to 108.

The cumulative total now stands at 6,589, with 1,552 active cases.
