In 2010, complications from diabetes left Liu Peijin's wife partially paralysed. Refusing to give up on their childhood dream of exploring the country, the 69-year-old former serviceman hit the road with her in 2014.

Liu later upgraded to a campervan equipped with two beds, air conditioning, a sink, and a dining table.

According to South China Morning Post, he manages her medication, daily foot soaks, and rehabilitation exercises as they travel across the country.

"We would rather die on the road than in a hospital bed," the couple agreed.

The couple have since travelled through 31 provincial-level regions in China

Liu claimed that life on the road made his wife '100 times' more spirited, helping her avoid muscle atrophy and maintain good coordination.

Their journey went viral on social media in April after a 23-year-old tourist, Cheng, filmed Liu feeding his wife in Xinjiang

Moved by their enduring devotion, Cheng shared the clip online.

Having completed their tour of China, the couple are already planning to hit the road again to explore lesser-known destinations
