Man Fined RM5,000 After Telling Police He Crossed Districts Just To Hang Out With GF
He failed to produce any valid interdistrict travel documents to the police.
A 30-year-old man in Kedah was fined RM5,000 after he flouted Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) by travelling across districts to visit his girlfriend
According to Sinar Harian, the man had managed to travel from Jitra to Alor Setar without being stopped.
However, Kota Setar district police chief ACP Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said the man and his girlfriend were found in a Proton Preve at around 6.15pm on Sunday, 16 May, at Jalan Limbong Kapal in the city.
Ahmad Shukri said the police force's SOP Compliance Monitoring team was making their rounds when they found the parked car in the area
"According to our checks, the driver of the vehicle admitted that he came from Jitra to hang out with his girlfriend, and a further check found that her address is in Alor Setar," said the police chief.
When the man failed to produce any valid interdistrict travel documents, the team immediately issued him a compound.
The compound was issued for offences under Article 4 and 5 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Movement Control) (No 4) (Amendment) (No 15) Regulations 2021
Meanwhile, the girlfriend was allowed to return home with a warning.
The police chief added that the Kota Setar SOP Compliance Monitoring team will continue to conduct surprise checks all over the district during the MCO.
