Police believe that prior to the incident, a fight had taken place at the victim's home.

The argument broke out because a roommate was upset at the victim for wasting water.

Kinabatangan district police chief Supt Dzulbaharin Ismail told Kosmo! that the victim is said to have often wasted water although the workers quarters often experienced water supply issues.

"Residents were alerted of the incident after the victim ran out of his house covered in blood. Besides that, witnesses also saw the suspect escape through the back door of the house but no one dared to stop him as he was seen with a machete," he added.

The victim was then sent to Kinabatangan Hospital to receive treatment but he was pronounced dead on the same day.

The suspect was finally nabbed by the police four days after the murder

Prior to his discovery, police received information that he had showed up at the work quarters to ask for food on Sunday, 21 March.

Dzulbaharin noted that he was found with the 76cm-long machete that is believed to be the same weapon used to hack his roommate and acted aggressively during the arrest.
