The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has responded after a viral video highlighted incomplete pedestrian walkways around several newly opened LRT3 stations in the area
Instagram page @kakijalankaki, which advocates for better pedestrian infrastructure in Malaysia, pointed out that while the LRT3 line has already begun operations, several stations still lack proper pedestrian access to nearby areas.
"City councils should be doing checks and ensuring pedestrian access is complete before stations open, not just acting after citizens make complaints. Public transport infrastructure should not end at station entrances only," the page wrote.
The video, which has since gained close to 500,000 views, showed the route from Stadium Shah Alam Station to AEON Mall Shah Alam, where pedestrians were seen having to jaywalk and run across a busy road due to the lack of a proper crossing.
It also highlighted several walkways that end abruptly, as well as a zebra crossing that does not connect to any pedestrian path.
Besides Stadium Shah Alam Station, the video also flagged issues around Dato' Menteri Station and Kerjaya Station, saying the incomplete walkways pose safety risks for commuters using the new rail line.

Following the video, Selangor Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim and Selangor Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship executive councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi visited the affected sites
According to Malay Mail, they confirmed the issues raised and instructed Prasarana and relevant developers to urgently complete the missing pedestrian infrastructure.
Ng also said MBSA has been directed to closely monitor the progress and inspect all LRT3 stations under its jurisdiction to identify and address similar shortcomings.

In response to the issue, MBSA has clarified and assured the public that pedestrian walkways connecting LRT3 stations to surrounding areas were part of the project's development approval conditions and are being completed in stages
In a statement issued on 1 July, the council said when it approved the LRT3 development plans in 2019, it required Prasarana and surrounding developers to build pedestrian walkways linking the stations to nearby commercial areas, public facilities, and surrounding developments.
For Dato' Menteri Station, MBSA said a covered walkway connecting the station to Shah Alam Convention Centre, Kompleks PKNS, and the Maybank building is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by September 2026.
As for Stadium Shah Alam Station, MBSA said pedestrian walkways were also included in the approved plans. However, as an immediate measure following the public feedback, the council will build a 200m pedestrian walkway linking the station to the Persiaran Sukan/Persiaran Akuatik traffic lights within one month.
It also said the contractor appointment process is underway to upgrade the boulevard connecting the area to AEON Mall Shah Alam.
MBSA added that it will continue working with relevant agencies and developers to complete the pedestrian network at all LRT3 stations in Shah Alam, while ensuring the facilities are safe and accessible.
