The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have shut down an online 'swinger' group operating in Kedah and Johor

According to Bernama, the group, which involved married couples exchanging partners, was detected following complaints from the public and monitoring by MCMC.

In a statement on Wednesday, 3 April, MCMC said operations conducted by its Enforcement Division and the police in both states revealed that the group of 'swingers' also possessed a large number of pornographic videos.

"As a result of the raids, several items such as mobile phones, computers, and thumb drives belonging to three individuals were seized for further investigation," it said.

MCMC said that the three suspects, aged between 39 and 50, acted as administrators for an account on X, formerly known as Twitter

Besides offering the exchange of partners, the account was found to be selling pornographic material for profit.

According to reports, the suspects uploaded short video clips on X before charging interested individuals RM100 to RM400 to obtain the full videos on Telegram.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) for using network facilities to transmit communication that is deemed offensive

If found guilty, the offence is punishable with up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.

MCMC also reminded the public not to misuse network facilities and online applications that contravene the country's laws.
