A three-year-old boy in Kelantan has died of heatstroke as the country grapples with an ongoing heatwave

According to Bernama, the boy, Abil Qaiz Faizal Fazrin, was playing with his two siblings in their grandfather's car, parked at the back of their home in Kampung Teluk, Bachok, when the incident happened.

Abil's grandmother, Zainun Mat Amin, said while his older siblings wanted to go home, Abil insisted on staying in the car.

"The child was probably accidentally locked inside the car and he was only discovered in a semi-conscious state nearly two hours later," she said.

Meanwhile, NADMA has recorded 37 cases of heat-related illnesses this year

In its statement, the agency said there have been 10 cases of heatstroke, 26 cases of heat exhaustion, and one case of heat convulsions, involving 27 adults, nine teenagers, and one child.

Perak and Kedah each recorded eight cases of heat-related illnesses, Johor five, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah four each, Selangor three, Perlis two, while Pahang, Penang, and Kelantan each recorded one case.

NADMA has advised the public to drink plenty of water, limit outdoor activities, wear comfortable clothing, store an adequate water supply, and avoid open burning during this ongoing heatwave.
