Penampang police said robbery incident involving "karate champ" did not actually happen

A report by The Star Online says that the incident involving a 20-year-old female karate champ beating up two armed men until they were comatose is, indeed, fake.

"We did not receive any report of such an incident," said Penampang police chief Deputy Supt Rosley Hobden when contacted earlier today, 6 March.

Meanwhile, initial reports of the viral incident on Malaysian Digest and The Reporter have yet to be updated at the time of writing.

SAYS has contacted the Facebook user profile believed to belong to the 20-year-old woman for further clarification.

6 MARCH, 7.00PM: It was previously alleged that on Saturday night, two armed men were beaten up after attacking a lone young woman who turned out to be a martial arts champion at Bandar Putatan, Sabah

Malay news portal The Reporter reported that two men armed with knives had attempted to rob and rape a 20-year-old woman who was driving back from Penampang, Sabah at approximately 11.40pm on Saturday, 4 March. Both ended up in a coma instead.

According to a posting on Kelab Info Malaysia's Facebook page, the woman - identified as 20-year-old Alice Lien Hua - was driving home from Penampang when she realised she was being followed by two men on a bike

In relating the chronology of events to The Reporter, Alice said that she had pulled over near Sungai Petagas to let the men pass when she realised she was being tailed at Bandar Putatan.

Then, they stopped in front of her car, alighted from the motorcycle, and demanded that she get out of the car.

In an unexpected move, she got out of her car. The men demanded for money and when she declined to give them any, one of the men dragged her to the nearby bushes with a meat cleaver at her throat.

The meat cleaver used by one of Alice's attackers.

According to Alice, the man warned her that he will slit her throat if she tried to do anything. At the same time, she saw that his partner had entered her car and started rummaging through her belongings.

Furious, Alice used her martial arts skills to defend herself against the man who'd attacked her until he was unconscious. She also beat up the man who entered her car.

One of the suspects was beaten unconscious.

"I was angry, so I used the martial arts I learned in Luyang two years ago to attack the man until he fell flat and unconscious on the floor," she told The Reporter.

"I also attacked his partner who was in the car. He tried to escape but I managed to deflect and bashed his head into the back of the car. I wanted to put his head in the tyres but wasn't able to. The hood of the car was damaged after I bashed the man's head into it. I did that because my hands were in pain after punching the first man," she explained.

According to Sabahan blog imaginationnself, she also rammed them with her car.

Some parts of Alice's car were dented where she rammed her attackers with.

After rendering both men unconscious, Alice contacted a friend from the Criminal Investigation Department of Inaman in Kota Kinabalu. Her comatose attackers were later brought to the ICU in KPJ Luyang.

Officials who were investigating the incident later found that the two men were Sulu migrants who had entered Sabah illegally and had no identification documents. Reports also indicate that the suspects might be drug addicts and had already woken up this morning, 6 March.

Alice, on the other hand, is reported to have suffered minor injuries and was brought to the Kota Kinabalu police station on the night of the incident. It is believed that she has already been released after making a police report.

Kelab Info Malaysia's Facebook post indicate that she suffered minor injuries to her fingers and sustained a punch to her forehead when she was defending herself from the attackers.
