Children were spotted risking their lives to go to school in Sabah because promises to build a bridge for villagers in Keningau were left unfulfilled

In a viral Facebook video, a group of schoolchildren can be seen crossing a water pipeline, clinging tightly above the rushing waters.

The recording, which was posted by Facebook user Siti Hafizah, drew netizens' attention to how villagers of Kampung Mansiang Baru did not have proper infrastructure built for students to cross the river.

Siti said the students have no other alternative than to climb the slippery pipeline during the rainy season.

According to Siti, the village was promised a solution to the issue by an assemblyman who visited the area in April

However, according to New Straits Times, despite the site visit to the village that is located about 109km from the city of Sabah, no action was taken.

The locals were promised a suspension bridge. However, "It is already July but there is still no construction taking place," Siti wrote in the caption.

She said she was prompted to upload the video because the villagers still have no choice but to use the pipeline as their way of crossing to the other side.

Following the viral video, Tulid assemblyman Flovia Ng said that she had just received approval from the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) Sabah on 23 June for the request of a suspension bridge

When contacted by New Straits Times, Flovia said that she was aware that there was no proper bridge in the area.

In a Facebook post, it was confirmed that the bridge will be built as soon as possible and that the process will be handed over to the appointed contractor later on.

Meanwhile, Tulid community development leader Casmir Silip said, "The project, with an estimated construction cost of RM100,000, will be implemented after identifying a qualified contractor."
