A full-time national serviceman from the Singapore Police Force illegally used a workplace computer to access the files of his teammate who was earlier arrested

According to The Straits Times, the accused, Amirudin Shah Zainal, took a photo of his colleague getting handcuffed from the workplace computer and shared it to a WhatsApp group.

He then made an eight-second TikTok video with another colleague by using the photo to make fun of their teammate.

On Wednesday, 25 January, the 23-year-old was sentenced to three weeks' jail after he pleaded guilty to a single charge under the Computer Misuse Act

The deputy public prosecutor had urged the court to sentence Amirudin to three and six weeks in jail as he said, "The accused's motive for committing the offence was completely frivolous."

Meanwhile, the police said they will start internal action against Amirudin following the court proceedings.

A police spokesman also warned that officers found misusing any workplace system will be investigated and dealt with severely.

"The use of all SPF systems is meant for official purposes only. Officers shall access these systems only for official work purposes and are not allowed to disclose information to any unauthorised person," The Straits Times quoted the police as saying.
