The receipt showed an extra RM0.20 charge on each plastic cup and plate used by a customer in the restaurant, better known as SS2 Kayu, during the Klang Valley water cut yesterday.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the receipt has since sparked criticism from netizens.

Manager of the restaurant confirmed that the 20 sen charge was imposed due to the water cut

"Around 7pm (on 23 April), there was no water suddenly, so we had to use plastic cups and plates," manager Mohamad Sajahan told Free Malaysia Today

He added that the charge was to cover the cost of purchasing cups, plates, and cutlery.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Sajahan claimed that a notice on the extra charge had been put up in the restaurant at around 7.30pm on 23 April. The plastic cutlery were used to "maintain hygiene" in SS2 Kayu.

"The plastic cutlery (we bought) were of high quality, costing us around 30 to 40 sen per piece. We only charged our customers 20 sen (each)," the manager added.

Nonetheless, the restaurant has reverted to using regular plates and cups at the time of writing as "there is a bit of water", according to Free Malaysia Today.

The 20 sen charge has come to the attention of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP)

Free Malaysia Today reported the ministry's spokesman as saying that enforcement officers have been dispatched to SS2 Kayu to investigate the charge.

"The minister (Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution) just brought this up at the post-Cabinet meeting, and instructed the enforcement division to look into it," the spokesman added.
