Two men have been arrested in connection with the harassment and physical assault of a 25-year-old female student on Thursday night

The suspects, aged 32 and 34, were arrested separately by the Sentul police.

While the 32-year-old man, who was the pillion rider on the kapcai, was picked up at the Sri Aman PPR in Jinjang Utara, Kepong at around 3.30pm yesterday, 22 April, his 34-year-old accomplice was arrested at the Taman Beringin PPR in Jinjang Utara, Kepong at 11.20am today, 23 April, according to Malaysiakini.

The suspects have a total of seven past criminal records

The 32-year-old has two previous criminal records, whereas the 34-year-old has five past criminal records.

The 34-year-old admitted to catcalling the woman and hitting her. He said that he attacked her with a stick when she began recording, according to Sentul district police headquarters chief ACP Beh Eng Lai.

"He [...] told the police that he tried to flirt with the victim but was turned down," Beh said.

The victim and her friend were on the way to Publika on foot when the two men catcalled them.

The men had also tried to steal the victim's mobile after she started to record but failed.

Meanwhile, the victim took to her Instagram earlier today to thank the police for their swift action.

Police have also seized the kapcai used in the incident

In a statement, the Sentul district police headquarters chief said that the case is being investigated under Sections 393 and 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and attempting to commit robbery.

According to a report in The Star today, 23 April, Ben said that the 34-year-old suspect will be remanded on Sunday, 24 April. It was not reported if the 32-year-old will be remanded, too.
