Two Workers Arrested For Killing Their Grab Driver Now Charged With Death Penalty
No plea was recorded at the time of the charge.
Two passengers who were arrested for killing their Grab driver last month were charged on Monday, 10 June, at the mobile Magistrate’s Court near Kota Kinabalu
Filipino national Arsit Indanan, 20, and local man Amru Al Asy Japri, 24, both of whom are car wash workers were arrested on 27 May for robbing and murdering Mohammad Hanafiee Jaffar. The driver's remains were found at a bush in Kampung Shahbandar, Tuaran.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty upon conviction
According to a report in The Star Online, no plea was recorded from the duo, and the court set 11 July for re-mention of the case in Tuaran.
FMT reported that the court also ordered that both the accused be further remanded.
While the Filipino national was not represented, Amru’s lawyer Dominic Chew had requested the court to refer his client to the mental hospital at Bukit Padang to establish whether he would able to give a plea
Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun said that the court would consider the request if Amru's lawyer could provide proof of his client's appointment card at the hospital.
