The moment a man walked into a restaurant in Kuala Rompin, Pahang, and set the place on fire has been caught on video

According to a statement by Rompin district police chief DSP Mohd Azahari Mukhtar, the incident took place on 15 July at a restaurant in Bukit Serdang.

In the two-minute-51-second video, a man can be seen entering the restaurant and spraying liquid all over the payment counter. Startled customers are seen immediately getting up from their seats and hurrying out of the shop.

The individual is then seen taking out a piece of cloth and attempting to light it on fire.

A customer standing outside the restaurant can be seen trying to talk to the man, as if to calm him down

This angers the man as he responds by kicking the chairs around him.

When the fire ignites, the man throws the cloth at the payment counter and walks out of the restaurant.

The two men then get into a physical fight as the suspect is leaving the premises.

Azahari said that the man was detained on the same day, even though the owner of the restaurant did not want to lodge a police report

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing damage to property through acts of mischief.

Prior to this incident, on 14 July, the 35-year-old man had also damaged a car using a sickle in Jalan Selendang-Berabong, where the owner made a police report.

The suspect, who suffers from bipolar disorder, will also be probed under the Dangerous Drugs Act for screening positive for drugs.
