The woman said a bystander came to help to ensure her safety.
A woman has shared her horrifying experience of being stalked by a man who allegedly carried a gun at a shopping mall in Ipoh, Perak on Tuesday, 16 January
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, 17 January, the woman said the incident occurred when she was dining at Haidilao with her family in AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18.
As she left the hotpot restaurant for the restroom, a person dressed entirely in black, including a black hat and mask, began following her.
"Midway to the restroom, I noticed the person was still tailing me.
"I quickened my pace towards the bathroom and I saw the person nervously pulled something out of his bag.
"I saw a dark object resembling a gun drop to the ground. Panicked, I quickly hid in the restroom and called my boyfriend for help, urging him to come quickly," she recounted.
After facing some difficulties telling her boyfriend what had happened over the phone due to poor reception, he hurried to the restroom's entrance to look for the man
The woman claimed that the man had mysteriously disappeared.
It was then that a concerned bystander, a Chinese uncle, approached the distressed couple.
According to her, the uncle said he had witnessed the man following her, prompting him to wait at the restroom's entrance to ensure her safety.
"The uncle said, 'My wife and I saw a man following you to the toilet. I was worried that you would be in danger.'
"The uncle was worried that something would happen to me and kept waiting for me until I came out from the restroom. He asked me if I was okay before leaving.
"I'm glad that a passerby took notice of the situation. Otherwise, I can't imagine what would have happened to me. It's so scary. My whole body is still shaking even now. I was so scared that I cried," she wrote.
At the time of writing, the woman's Facebook post has garnered over 4,100 shares and 670 comments
Many netizens expressed their disbelief at the woman's experience, and asked for more details about the incident.
"Was the incident captured on CCTV? Did you inform the management?" inquired a concerned Facebook user.
The woman responded, "There were at least three CCTVs that captured him following me. When he was struggling to retrieve an object resembling a gun from his pocket, he was standing directly under a CCTV. I'm not certain if the exact moment was recorded on CCTV."
One netizen asked if she had filed a police report; she replied that she was unsure if it would be helpful. This prompted more netizens to encourage her to file a police report.
SAYS has reached out to the woman and AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18 for updates on the matter but did not receive an immediate response.
