Woman Who Spent RM6,000 On Her Cat's Surgery Actually Didn't Do It For Cosmetic Purposes
The surgery was for a medical condition to help the cat.
Turns out the woman in east China, who was criticised online for taking her cat for double eyelid surgery because it "had ugly eyes", did so to help her cat with a medical condition called "Entropion"
According to a Chinese video-sharing site Miaopai, the cat's owner did it to help the cat, not to make it look better as it was previously reported by Daily Mail.
Several English news media cited the Daily Mail report including us at SAYS.
Entropion is a genetic eye condition which occurs when the eyelid folds inward and the eyelashes irritate the eye, causing irritation and damage to the cornea which can lead to ulceration and perforation. The condition requires veterinary treatment.
According to Dr Wu, a vet at Animal Medical Center Hospital (AMC) interviewed by a reporter, the cat would have gone blind if the animal's eyelids had not been removed during the surgery
After the reporter from Yizhibo showed Dr Wu photos of the cat post its surgery, she said that the cat had entropion, which was causing infections.
"This cat got entropion. A part of its eyelids have to be removed or it will go blind," she can be heard saying in the video, adding while plastic surgery on pets is generally reserved for a medical condition and not for cosmetic procedures.
The veterinarian also revealed that cats do not have double eyelids.
