If your name is missing from the voter list, it may be because you recently turned 18, your address information is incomplete as a newly eligible voter, or the latest voter-roll update has not been reflected yet.

Do not assume immediately that you are not allowed to vote. In Malaysia, eligible citizens aged 18 and above are registered automatically, but voter information still has to go through the Election Commission's (EC) monthly voter-roll process before it appears in MySPR Semak.

The first place to check is MySPR Semak, using your MyKad, military, or police service number without dashes or spaces.

The quick answer

SituationWhat it may mean
You recently turned 18Your automatic registration may still be processing
You are a newly eligible voter with incomplete address informationThe EC may not yet be able to assign an accurate electoral division
You are checking before the latest voter-roll update is reflectedYour details may appear after the relevant monthly voter-roll process

The first step is to check MySPR Semak first

MySPR Semak is the main place to check whether the EC has voter-registration information for you.

To check:

  1. Go to MySPR Semak.
  2. Select Voter Information Check (Semakan Daftar Pemilih).
  3. Enter your MyKad, military, or police service number.
  4. Do not include dashes or spaces.
  5. Complete the CAPTCHA.
  6. Submit the check and review the information shown.

If your details appear, save the information and check whether your electoral area matches what you expect.

If your details do not appear, the reason may be one of the three situations below.

If you recently turned 18:

If you recently turned 18, your automatic voter registration may not appear immediately.

Malaysia has Automatic Voter Registration (Pendaftaran Pemilih Secara Automatik) for eligible citizens aged 18 and above.

However, a new voter record still has to go through the EC's monthly voter-roll process before it appears in MySPR Semak.

So if you recently turned 18 and your name is not showing yet, check again after the relevant monthly update.

If you are a newly eligible voter with incomplete address information:

If you are newly eligible to vote but your address information is incomplete, the EC may not yet be able to assign you to an accurate electoral division.

Your voting area is tied to official address information. For newly eligible voters, incomplete or general address information may affect whether the EC can place the voter correctly in the voter roll.

This is different from an existing voter whose address is merely outdated. An existing voter may still be tied to their previous electoral area until they update their details.

If the latest voter-roll update has not been reflected yet:

Your name may also be missing because the latest monthly voter-roll update has not appeared in the system yet.

Automatic registration and voter-detail updates do not always show instantly. New voter records and approved updates have to move through the EC's processing and voter-roll cycle first.

If you are eligible but cannot find your name, check MySPR Semak again after the relevant monthly update.

What should you do next?

If your name is missing, check again after the relevant voter-roll update and make sure your official address information is complete.

You should:

  • recheck your details in MySPR Semak after the monthly update,
  • make sure your official address information is complete,
  • contact the EC or refer to its voter-registration channels if your name still does not appear after the expected update,
  • and avoid waiting until election week to check your voter status.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my name missing from the voter list?

Your name may be missing because you recently turned 18, your address information is incomplete as a newly eligible voter, or the latest voter-roll update has not been reflected yet.

I just turned 18. Do I need to register manually?

No. Eligible Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above are automatically registered, but the record may not appear immediately.

What if my address information is incomplete?

If you are newly eligible to vote, incomplete address information may affect whether the EC can assign you to the correct electoral division.

What if I am already a registered voter but my address is old?

If you are already registered, your voter record may continue to follow your previous electoral area until you update your address and apply for an electoral-division change.

Should I wait until election week to check?

No. Check early so there is more time to identify and resolve voter-registration issues before polling details are announced.
