Amid the Olympic celebrations, several prominent Malaysians have publicly praised the achievements of our athletes who fought hard at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Datuk Lee Chong Wei, one of Malaysia's most successful badminton players, was at the airport to warmly welcome the returning badminton team today, 7 August.

A cheering crowd also gathered to celebrate the well-deserved heroes, including men's singles player Lee Zii Jia, men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, women's doubles team Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, and mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei.

"So proud of you boys... The second game, most people would think it's [a] lost cause. But you both never gave up. And you crawled back... point by point... and made us proud. One of the best comeback Malaysians have ever seen," penned Lee Chong Wei in an Instagram post about the men's doubles duo, who were the first to bring home a bronze medal on 4 August.

Ipoh-born actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh also praised Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, as well as Lee Zii Jia, all of whom secured bronze medals

Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh, who has been present in Paris to support the athletes, congratulated each of the badminton players and encouraged the public who are watching the Olympics to embrace resilience.

"May young Malaysians watching this Olympics know the meaning of not giving up — be a generation and nation of comebacks no matter how hopeless the situation is," she wrote in a recent Instagram post.

Former national squash player and world champion Nicol David hugged women's doubles duo Pearly and Thinaah after their fight in the semi-finals

"Many don't know how hard it was to play at the level you displayed this week, a few weeks ago, you were battling injuries, sickness, and frustration but you always have each others back.

"The semifinals was brutal and you put everything you had out there, everything to reach that final and poured yourselves out... I have nothing but a full heart that can burst with pride of the two amazing role models our nation has," she penned in a long Instagram post for the duo.

She also gave her heartfelt congratulations to Chia-Soh and Lee Zii Jia in separate posts for making such epic comebacks during their matches.

"Congratulations on this milestone win and all of us Malaysians are truly proud of you and the way you fought from your heart for our country," she wrote.

Thank you, athletes, for fighting hard and making our nation proud!
