The Selangor Red Giants (SRG) have created history by winning Malaysia's first ever trophy at a major international Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) league

The official Selangor FC esports team defeated previous world champions, Philippines' AP Bren, 4-3 in an intense grand final at the 2024 MLBB Mid Season Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last night, 14 July.

The team took home an impressive USD1 million (approximately RM4.6 million) prize for their win, while AP Bren pocketed USD500,000 (RM2.3 million).

"The Red Giants have proven to the world that Malaysia is a strong contender in the international stage, winning a first ever international trophy for their region!" said the official MLBB tournament page, congratulating the team.

That's not all, an SRG player was also named tournament MVP!

Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, better known by his in-game name Sekysss, was given the honourable title last night.

"Flawless retributions, controlled aggression, and world class mechanics, he took Malaysia to a first ever international trophy. Sekysss is our 2024 MLBB Mid Season Cup Finals MVP!" said the MLBB tournament hosts while announcing the winner.

During the post-match interview, the 18-year-old said it was a dream come true.

"I feel like I am dreaming right now because this is my first international tournament, and we are the champions," he said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

"We proved to all the netizens, who said Malaysia would [lose] 4-0 to AP Bren, wrong. Alhamdulillah, thank you to all the Malaysian fans who supported us," he said.

The historic win has also captured the attention of many prominent figures, such as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh

"Congratulations and well done, SRG. You have made Malaysia proud on an international stage!

"Your dedication and commitment shown at this tournament will certainly be a catalyst for the country's esports industry," said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a Facebook post today, 15 July.
