Android is rolling out an industry-first fake call detection feature to protect users from AI voice-cloning scams
The tool uses an encrypted digital handshake via Rich Communication Services (RCS) to instantly flag spoofed numbers from your contacts.
The feature utilises the latest mobile technology to verify identity.
The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) noted that impersonation fraud contributed to over USD400 billion (RM1.6 trillion) in global losses in its March 2026 assessment.

The Android fake call detector operates automatically behind the scenes through a digital handshake that takes place between the two devices
In its announcement, Google explained that when a contact calls, their phone sends a silent confirmation signal via end-to-end encrypted RCS technology.
If a scammer attempts to spoof the number, that initial signal will be missing.
Your device instantly notices this and pings the contact's actual device, with an on-screen warning that reads, "I'm not making a call right now."
This proactive alert prevents you from falling victim to deepfake impersonation.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that these scams cost victims USD2.95 billion (RM11.75 billion) in 2024, proving that traditional caller ID is no longer enough
The security feature is currently rolling out globally via the Phone by Google app to all Android 12 phones and later, starting with Pixel phones.
If your smartphone uses a different default app, you can download it directly from the Google Play Store here.
