OpenAI has expanded its AI search engine, ChatGPT, to all users, including those on the free tier

This development, announced during OpenAI's "12 days of ship-mas" livestream, marks a significant enhancement in AI-driven search capabilities.

Initially introduced for paid subscribers in October, ChatGPT's search engine now offers a more traditional search experience on mobile devices.

Users seeking information on local venues, such as restaurants or attractions, will encounter lists complete with images, ratings, and operating hours. Selecting a location provides detailed information and access to maps with directions directly within the app.

Additionally, ChatGPT has improved efficiency for specific searches

For instance, when users search for "hotel booking websites", the AI presents direct links to relevant sites before generating detailed responses, streamlining the search process.

At the bottom, there's also an option for ChatGPT users to view citation sources. Furthermore, the Advanced Voice Mode feature now delivers real-time web information; however, this functionality remains exclusive to paid users.

ChatGPT Search is available on both the web and smartphone app.

Here's how you can use ChatGPT Search

STEP 1: Log in to ChatGPT and tap 'New chat'

STEP 2: Tap on the 'World Wide Web' icon (it resembles a globe)

STEP 3: Type your search phrase and hit 'Enter' or the 'Send' arrow button

These updates position ChatGPT as a formidable competitor in the AI search arena, challenging established players like Google and Microsoft.

By offering real-time, conversational search experiences, OpenAI aims to redefine how users interact with information online.
