Meta is trialling a paid tier for Instagram that lets users view Stories past the 24-hour limit

A spokesperson confirmed to AFP that the tier is being tested in "a few countries worldwide" including Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines for approximately USD2 (RM8.10).

According to TechCrunch, paying users will have more control over which accounts are permitted to see photos or videos shared in Story posts.

The launch followed earlier reports that the social media giant was looking for fresh ways to monetise its massive user base.

Unlike Meta Verified, Instagram Plus is tailored for the average person looking for a bit more utility

Instagram Plus allows users unlock tools that make the app feel more personal.

Subscribers gain the ability to view a Story without the poster ever being notified. This "stealth mode" is joined by a feature that shows how many times stories are rewatched.

Instagram Plus also introduces unlimited audience lists, allowing for more specific sharing than the standard Close Friends circle

Users can even extend their posts for 48 hours or spotlight them weekly.

Other additions include an animated "Superlike" for Stories and a search bar for viewer lists.

Pricing for Instagram Plus varies by region to reflect local market conditions

In Mexico, the service costs 39 pesos (approximately RM8.80), while users in Japan pay 319 yen (approximately RM8.10) per month.

In the Philippines, the cost is set at a modest 65 pesos (approximately RM4.30). These prices suggest that Meta is testing various price points to see what users are willing to spend.

While many users have already voiced their displeasure with yet another subscription, Meta is following the path set by its competitors like X and Snapchat who are already offering paid premium versions of their apps for several years.
