While producing a feature-length animation usually takes five years, China has shown that artificial intelligence can slash that timeline to just 12 months
On 20 December, Beijing hosted a test screening of The Reunion Journey, the first film in China produced entirely using Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC).
The story follows panda siblings, Tuan Zai and Yuan Niu, as they navigate separation and eventual reunion. The film was produced by China Media Capital and other tech partners.
By leveraging AI, the production team completed the development cycle in only one year, significantly shorter than the usual three to five years required for rendering.

According to the China Global Television Network (CGTN), moviegoers were impressed by the lifelike visuals, specifically the realistic fur textures and facial movements of the pandas
"Before entering the cinema, I didn't expect AI technology to achieve such a high level of detail in a film," said moviegoer Wang Wenbo.
Wang noted that the realism was eye-opening.

Director Ma Teng told China Central Television (CCTV) that the animation showed consistent character design, seamless scene continuity, and lifelike expressions
"Regarding quality improvements, such as enhancing hair texture, smoothing transitions, and adjusting lighting, these are actually addressed one by one," Ma said.
He added that the team utilised new technologies to give the audience a fresh experience, blending traditional themes with digital disruption.
