This was unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the launch of TM's "i-foundit!" app yesterday. The app will enable all Malaysians to access the Internet via wifi@unifi, previously known as TM WiFi.

In conjunction with the launch, Najib also announced that charges are waived until year-end. After 31 December, users will be charged 10 sen per hour for data usage over the app.

Najib added that the launch is part of TM's answer to the government's call for better and faster Internet connectivity in the country

"We were even talking about internet data at double the speed and half the price, which TM says they can deliver soon, by 2019," said Najib as quoted by NST.

As of the second quarter this year, TM had 2.36 million broadband customers, of whom over one million are UniFi customers.

The app automatically locates WiFi hotspots and connects its users to them

Local tech site SoyaCincau noted that the service is capable of providing download speeds up to 4Mbps.

The app is currently available to download on Google Playstore for now. We reckon an iOS version will be released soon.

There will also be two new UniFi packages designed specifically for students and entrepreneurs

The packages will be offered via three different plans with ICT features to cater the needs of online businesses as well as e-learning. The company is expected to reveal more on the packages in a separate event.
