Chinese robotics company Unitree has showcased its new bipedal robot, which can run faster than Usain Bolt's top speed
Dubbed 'Superman', it's engineered to push the limits of human-like movement.
Built in Hangzhou in just over three months, the humanoid machine reached a top running speed of 12.66m/s, faster than Usain Bolt's recorded peak speed during his 100m world-record run.
'Superman' also demonstrated a standing high jump of 2m, despite having legs measuring just 0.85m
The secret behind its lightning speed lies in dense electric actuators coupled with custom composite materials.
Unlike traditional robots with rigid movements, 'Superman' relies on dynamic balancing, real-time algorithms, and lightweight materials for rapid acceleration and high-speed stability.
Unitree predicts that ongoing technical refinements will allow the platform to break even more human athletic records in the coming months
Beyond setting speed benchmarks, the company aims to apply this nimble motion control to high-stakes search-and-rescue missions and complex industrial operations.
By combining sophisticated sensor fusion with raw agility, Unitree continues to redefine what mobile humanoid platforms can achieve. The preview demonstrates how advanced robotics can combine mechanical hardware with human-like motion.
