Hollywood actress and comedian Awkwafina has been making legendary moves in the film industry for a number of years

Making a splash in the scene back in 2012 as a rapstress with her breakout hit My Vag (2012), the singer-turned-actress began to rise even further through her appearances in top-tier films such as Ocean's 8 (2018), Crazy Rich Asians (2019), and Raya and the Last Dragon (2021).

Among some of her most notable works include her role as Billi Wang in the 2019 film, The Farewell, where she took home a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, subsequently becoming the first individual of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe in any lead actress film category.

With all her success, Awkwafina's role in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid (2023) has been her latest project to garner the actress praise and noteworthiness.

Taking on the role of Scuttle, a dimwitted northern gannet and a friend of Ariel's, Awkwafina's spin on the classically loved character has received tonnes of attention from the public.

During a recent interview the actress did alongside her co-star in The Little Mermaid (2023), Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina revealed that she used to live in Malaysia for a period of time

In a 38-second clip that was uploaded to TGV Cinemas' official YouTube page, Awkwafina and Tremblay encouraged fans of the movie to go and see the show in cinemas.

"Hi Malaysia! I love you and miss you," said the actress at the beginning of the clip.

Continuing on, Awkwafina casually mentioned that she used to watch movies at TGV Cinema outlets all the time when she lived in Malaysia.

"I hope you go check out our movie at TGV. I used to go watch movies there, man. It's a good place," she mentioned, before the producer of the clip asked her if she was telling the truth.

"Yeah, when I lived in Kuala Lumpur," she added.

While this may be the first time Awkwafina has explicitly revealed the fact that she used to live in Malaysia, it isn't the first time she's expressed her love for Kuala Lumpur

During a YouTube video that Awkwafina filmed with Harpers Bazaar for their Food Diaries: Bite Size series back in 2021, the actress shared that she absolutely loves the food in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

"They had this dish called Hainan chicken and there's another dish called roti canai — that I am like obsessed with. KL was definitely a cool food city," she said in the clip.

Though the actress did not provide a specific timeline for when she lived in Malaysia, it's safe to assume that she may have resided here when Crazy Rich Asians (2018) was filmed, as that took place across locations in Malaysia and Singapore, including Kuala Lumpur
