Toyota Is Launching An Anime Series That Reminds Us Of 'Initial D'
The GRIP team is mankind's last hope against soulless automated driving.
Japanese automaker Toyota is venturing into unexpected territory: anime
Recognising the iconic status of the Toyota AE86 from its portrayal in the Initial D manga and anime series, the car manufacturer is delving into the world of entertainment by creating its own series titled GRIP.
Through this anime, Toyota aims to promote its cars and engage with fans of both anime and car culture alike.
GRIP is undoubtedly inspired by the pop-classic Initial D
According to Variety, the five-episode series draws inspiration from Initial D and is designed to excite anime fans as well as motoring enthusiasts.
Check out the trailer below:
"GRIP is a high-octane original anime series that combines heart-pounding action, adrenaline-fuelled races, and a battle between the human spirit and computer control. With their GR rides and unwavering determination, the GRIP team is the last hope for the spirit of driving," said Toyota in its overview of the anime.
Although the trailer doesn't reveal many details about the storyline, GRIP is set in a future where individuals who prefer driving their cars clash with proponents of driverless vehicles. The series also introduces a "dashing protagonist" who confronts the threat of soulless automated driving.
