A mission by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) to rescue an elephant calf that had fallen into a drain has touched the hearts of many

A video of the rescue was uploaded by PERHILITAN on its official X account yesterday, 4 July.

The video shows the PERHILITAN officers hoisting the calf that fell into the drain with an excavator, while the little elephant's mother waited patiently beside the drain.

The heartwarming incident was said to have happened at Mile 13 of the East-West Highway in Jeli, Kelantan.

Meanwhile, others also voiced concern over the elephants' safety and suggested ways to prevent such incidents from happening again

"Is the mother elephant's leg okay? It looked like she kept stumbling.

"Maybe, after this, they can take preventive measures such as putting covers over the drains. Anyway, it was nice to see a new generation of elephants. Thank you, PERHILITAN heroes!" said a netizen.
