This Lion Statue In Miri Gets A Terrifying Makeover With Eerie Black Eyes
The repainted lion now looks possessed, quipped a netizen.
A lion statue in Miri has been grabbing attention online after a recent repainting turned it into something a little more... unsettling
The statue, located at Taman Bulatan Miri, was shared in a Facebook group called Miri Community last Friday, 13 December, looking far from its usual self.
After undergoing restoration, the statue now sports eerie black eyes, with the rest of its body — tongue included — bright orange.

The new look quickly raised eyebrows among netizens, many of whom couldn't help but notice how the lion seemed to have lost the whites of its eyes in the process
"A black metal lion," a user joked.

The repainting came after locals had long expressed concern about the fading colours of the park's animal statues
Over the years, exposure to the elements had dulled their vibrant hues, leading many to hope for a much-needed restoration.
A post by I Love Borneo noted that the statue’s fading paint had prompted these calls for action, resulting in the eye-catching — but perhaps slightly spooky — makeover.
