Here's Our Experience At Sweatt Fitness, A Small KL Gym For Personal & Attentive Training
The studio is described as offering "small group training combined with personal attention in an intimate community setting".
If you are thinking of switching up your workout routine or starting to get into fitness, we've got a great recommendation for you
Sweatt Fitness in Desa Sri Hartamas, KL, is ideal for beginners embarking on their fitness journey and seasoned enthusiasts looking to diversify their workout routine.
Earlier this month, we visited their studio nestled in the bustling Hartamas area. We were excited for a great workout as soon as chief instructor Jon Kizen greeted us with a firm handshake.
The special thing about boutique gyms is definitely the people, be it the instructors or the class attendees, the sense of community here is very uplifting.
Coupled with the smaller-than-usual class compared to franchised gyms, the anxiety that is often associated with big crowds and inattentive instructors went straight out of the window.
In fact, when I told my friends that I still have a franchised gym membership, their response was, "Who still goes to those?"
Sweatt Fitness is available on ClassPass. Below is a short description of the studio on the platform:

Our visit gave us a quick look into three types of classes: bodycombat, total body strength training, and flexi
It was about a two-hour session headed by Jon, Henna, and Elaine for their respective classes.
Boy, oh, boy, did we sweatt! All three instructors aren't just great at what they do; they are also genuinely invested in what you take away from the sessions — whether it is fitness knowledge or muscle gains.
During Jon's session, we were pushed to our limits. Eight minutes in, my heart rate hit the 'peak zone' at 179 BPM. My smart watch indicated that I had burned 113 calories in less than 10 minutes. It was definitely my best record.

Jon's class is a high-energy, non-contact, martial arts-inspired workout that incorporates moves from various martial arts. It makes regular cardio more enjoyable (and bearable) with air punches and kicks performed in a choreographed rhythm, accompanied by pumping music.
I particularly enjoyed the air-kicking very much as it trained my balance and stretched my hamstrings. I can't recall ever doing a workout that simultaneously trained cardio, balance, and hamstrings. No wonder my heart was hitting 179 BPM.

Next up was total body strength. As Jon handed the session over to Henna, he noted that she is more fervent and relentless in pushing our limits.
Jon was right. I had to take breaks multiple times during Henna's session. Even my colleague Helmi, a regular CrossFitter, had to step aside to catch his breath.
There was no judgement for stepping aside, which was great.
Henna's total body strength class involved dumbbells as we worked on our shoulders, glutes, core, thighs, and many more.

Finally, our favourite class, flexi, arrived. And it's our favourite for a good reason — it gave our hearts a chance to chill out a bit.
All of us who attended Sweatt Fitness that day are typical gym bros, none of us are regulars in Pilates or yoga classes.
Elaine's class, flexi, isn't Pilates or yoga. If I had to compare it to food, it's like dessert after a heavy meal. Her class aims to increase mobility and range of motion, release body tension and soreness, reduce the risk of injury, and improve workout performance.
She mentioned that some of us can't do certain movements, like deep lunges or maintaining perfect form, because we're not flexible enough. Her class aims to resolve that.
It's amazing how much a foam roller and our own body weight could soothe us, and it was Elaine's knowledge and guidance that helped us get there.

We were in many challenging positions that we never thought we could achieve. I particularly loved my hamstrings being stretched. As you can tell by now, I have a hamstring problem.
Don't just take it from me, here's what Ryan had to say about Sweatt Fitness:
"I usually do boxing and Muay Thai. So the bodycombat class was familiar to me. But it was still intense as cardio is always a killer. What stood out for me was the flexi class as I am so not used to doing these stretches and using a foam roller. It was useful and I definitely see myself incorporating the stretches in my routine next time."
