2 Motorcyclists Narrowly Avoid Falling Into Sinkhole In Melaka
The sinkhole is 1.7m deep.
Two motorcyclists nearly fell into a sinkhole on Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz in Taman Melaka Raya, Melaka, when the 1.7m-deep cavity unexpectedly appeared yesterday, 2 October
Food delivery rider Izzat Irsyaduddin Daud, 36, said he was completing an order when he encountered the sinkhole, reported The Star.
"[When] I spotted the large hole in front of me, I quickly swerved to the left. I hit the roadside rail and suffered minor injuries," he said.

According to Melaka's Public Works Department (JKR) director Mohamad Salzeli Mokhtar, the 3.5m-long and 1.7m-deep sinkhole was caused by a nearby damaged culvert
He added that overloaded vehicles using the over 40-year-old road also contributed to the sinkhole, reported Harian Metro.
"We have taken short-term and long-term measures, including opening a 1km contraflow lane on the opposite road and closing three lanes [on the affected road].
"The road is now limited to vehicles not exceeding 10 tonnes," Salzeli said.
For a long-term measure, he will request an allocation from JKR to fund the repair work.
