UPNM Cadet Charged With Injuring Junior With Hot Iron Could Face Expulsion
The cadet could face penalties, including expulsion and the reimbursement of all scholarship funds received from the university.
A cadet officer from the National Defence University (UPNM) could face expulsion from the university for allegedly injuring a junior with a hot steam iron
According to Bernama, Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, a fourth-year cadet, may also be required to repay all scholarship funds he received from the university.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the Investigation Board had completed its investigation into the case, and the cadet's punishment was decided yesterday, 12 November.
He emphasised that the ministry would not compromise on the matter and they would take strict action, including expelling the cadet from UPNM.
"We will also demand repayment of all financial support provided during his training as a cadet at UPNM's Military Training Academy," he told a press conference at the Defence Ministry yesterday.

He faces accusations of intentionally causing harm by pressing a hot iron against the chest of Muhammad Salman Mohd Saiful Surash, 20, at UPNM's Sungai Besi camp in Cheras at 11.45pm on 22 October.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine, or whipping, or any two of these penalties, if found guilty.

Mohamed Khaled emphasised that the ministry is transparent about bullying cases and will cooperate with the police during the investigation
"We will cooperate with all parties because we have limited penalties, with the maximum being expulsion from the cadet programme," he stated.
