A 49-year-old mother of three has been charged with murdering three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students near the campus in Dungun, Terengganu last Wednesday, 9 October

According to the New Straits Times, the police said there were enough criminal elements to justify charging Norizan Ismail with murder when she crashed her SUV into three students on Jalan Pantai last week.

The case was initially investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving but was later changed to Section 307(1) of the Penal Code for attempted murder, based on instructions from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

"This is taking into account that the suspect may have been aware of the collision, and did not stop her vehicle after dragging the victims for more than 100m.

"The AGC believed that based on these elements, the suspect should be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder)," Berita Harian quoted Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin as saying.

The police also did not find any medical records indicating that the suspect had any mental health problems

Norizan was charged at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court yesterday, 15 October.

The court ordered her to undergo psychiatric treatment at the Johor Bahru Permai Hospital.

The three victims who died in the incident were identified as Ku Adib Aizab Ku Azmi, 20, Khairul Anwar Jamaluddin, 20, and Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25.

Norizan was driving a Honda CR-V when she collided with two motorcycles carrying four students in front of the UiTM Dungun campus at 7.35pm last Wednesday.

The fourth student, Mohd Ammar Danish Mohd Rodhuan, 20, survived the accident and was rushed to Dungun Hospital.
