The father of the 15-year-old student allegedly stabbed by her classmate at a secondary school in Banting, Selangor, believes his daughter was not the intended target of the attack
Speaking to reporters at Banting Hospital, Mohd Firuz Ibrahim, 43, said he believes the suspect may have been trying to attack someone else, but his daughter happened to be the closest person at the time.
"I feel my daughter wasn't the target," he said.
"Maybe [the suspect] wanted to target someone else, but my daughter happened to be the closest to them. Perhaps also because my daughter's build is quite large, she didn't have time to run away."
Mohd Firuz also revealed that his daughter suffered about 14 stab wounds, mostly to her back, as well as injuries to her face, head, and left lung.
"Her left lung is injured," he said, adding that medical personnel were working to drain blood from her injured lung.
Despite the severity of her injuries, he said she was conscious and able to speak when he met her at Banting Hospital after the incident.
Recalling how he first learned of the incident, Mohd Firuz said he was at work when he noticed several missed calls on his phone, including one from his daughter's teacher
"At first, I thought my daughter might have fallen ill or had a fever. I was shocked to find out she had been stabbed," he said.
Mohd Firuz said his daughter knew the 15-year-old student believed to be involved in the attack, as they were classmates last year.
"They know each other. They were classmates last year," he said.
He also said his daughter, the second of his three children, has been studying at the school for the past three years and had never complained of being bullied or having issues with other students.
Following the incident, Mohd Firuz called for tighter security measures at schools, saying checks should be carried out before anyone is allowed to enter the premises.
"After seeing what happened today, I feel security needs to be tightened. There needs to be proper checks at the entrance before anyone is allowed into the school," he said.
