Kelantan police have arrested a man for allegedly using MyKads of four different individuals to purchase more than 100 litres of petrol

The suspect was detained yesterday, 2 April, while filling up his vehicle at a petrol station in Tumpat, according to the New Straits Times.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed the arrest, stating that the man was found with several identity cards that did not belong to him.

"When apprehended, we found four identity cards in his possession," Yusoff told reporters during a visit to the Malaysia-Thailand border.

"He used the cards belonging to different people to purchase over 100 litres of petrol."

The case has been referred to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further action

The suspect is currently being investigated under the National Registration Act, though Yusoff noted that authorities are also reviewing other relevant laws that may be used against the suspect.

Addressing the current energy situation, Yusoff was asked if there had been any instances of Malaysians smuggling diesel from Thailand into Kelantan via illegal routes.

At present, diesel in Thailand is sold at about 38 baht (RM4.70) per litre, which is cheaper than the current price of RM6.02 per litre in Malaysia.

Despite the price difference and the ongoing Middle East crisis, Yusoff said no such activities have been detected.

"So far, we have not arrested any Malaysians attempting to bring in diesel from across the border," he confirmed.
