Years after the smash-hit 2018 movie, a television series based on Kevin Kwan's best-selling Crazy Rich Asians book trilogy is now in development at streaming platform Max (formerly HBO Go).
The show will be inspired by the entire book series, which includes China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, according to Deadline.
The creative team is bringing back familiar faces. Malaysia-born screenwriter Adele Lim, who co-wrote the Crazy Rich Asians movie, will take on multiple roles as executive producer, writer, and showrunner.
The film's director, Jon M Chu, and author Kevin Kwan are also on board as executive producers.
Kwan confirmed the news on Instagram, calling it "crazy exciting", while Lim expressed her excitement, saying, "The band's back together" and Chu replied, "It's time. ;)"
It's still unclear if any of the film's original cast — including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh — will reprise their roles
However, discussions are reportedly happening behind the scenes.
This TV series isn't the only project in the pipeline. A Crazy Rich Asians Broadway musical is also in development, with Singaporean songwriter Tat Tong and American lyricist Amanda Green set to create the show's music.
Variety reported that Chu, who helmed the hit 2024 musical movie Wicked, will be directing the musical.
