Meet Khairulaming: The Content Creator Who Went From Video Recipes To Sambal Millionaire

Rising to fame with his easy-to-follow cooking recipes, soothing voice, and polite demeanour, it came to nobody's surprise when Khairulaming was nominated as 'Creator of the Year' at the upcoming TikTok Awards Malaysia.

Leading the category with over a million votes from the public, we recently had a quick chat with the superstar to find out the secret sauce behind his Sambal Nyet success.

Khairulaming did just that, and his reaction?

"Saya rasa amat terharu atas sokongan yang diberikan," which translates to "I feel deeply touched by the support I've received."

Khairulaming added, "Ini adalah kali pertama TikTok Awards berlangsung di Malaysia dan saya sangat teruja apabila saya dipilih sebagai calon yang tertinggi iaitu 'Creator of The Year'. Selepas lapan tahun berkecimpung dalam bidang mencipta kandungan 'content', ini adalah kali pertama anugerah berprestij seperti ini diwujudkan untuk menghargai karya 'content creators'."

(I feel deeply touched by the support I've received. This is the first time the TikTok Awards have taken place in Malaysia, and I was extremely excited to be chosen in the top category, 'Creator of The Year'. After eight years in the field of content creation, this is the first time such a prestigious award has been established to appreciate the work of content creators.)

For content creators, staying inspired is key to longevity. Khairulaming has been in the game for eight years and counting, and he's still going strong. We asked him about his inspiration and how he avoids burnout.

He confessed, "Sejujurnya, rasa penat itu tidak asing," meaning "Honestly, feeling tired is not unfamiliar." 

Khairulaming went on to say that during Ramadan, he's especially tired when he produces his viral hit series, 30 Hari 30 Resepi (30 Days 30 Recipes).

What keeps him going are the people who enjoy his content. He's discovered that many Malaysians not only look forward to his recipes, but many use them in their everyday cooking at home, and some utilise them to launch their own businesses.

He encourages everyone not to shy away from trying out fresh ideas and standing out from the crowd. 

"Proses pembikinan 'content' akan mengambil masa yang lama untuk dipelajari," which translates to "The content creation process takes time to learn." He adds that it's important not to give in to the pressures of creating high quality content in short amounts of time.

Khairulaming went on to explain that you have to learn from your past mistakes, and listen to your audience's feedback in order to continuously improve yourself. It's clear that his success is rooted in both his talent and his commitment to growth.

We couldn't resist asking Khairulaming about his plans for the future. He cheekily replied, "I will be launching my second product under the Khairulaming brand in the near future." But he declined to give us a hint about what it would be.

The entrepreneur added that he will be creating more 'business-centric' content to help other small business owners succeed, especially when it comes to e-commerce and online sales.

And, of course, he'll continue with the cooking content we all love to watch.

He adds, "Saya harap nilai yang diberikan kepada masyarakat akan makin berkembang daripada tahun tahun yang sebelumnya," which translates to "I hope to provide even more value to the community than in previous years."

"Terima kasih banyak kepada semua yang telah mengundi saya," he expressed his gratitude, which means "Thank you very much to everyone who voted for me."

He added, "Saya tidak mungkin akan dapat mencapai semua kejayaan ini tanpa sokongan daripada anda semua sejak dari lapan tahun lepas," acknowledging that his success wouldn't have been possible without the support of his fans over the past eight years.
