Sabah Records CNY Reunion Dinner Cluster After 15 Relatives Test COVID-19 Positive
All 15 of them were at the family gathering on 12 February.
Sabah has recorded its first COVID-19 cluster from a Chinese New Year family gathering, resulting in 15 positive cases so far
According to Malay Mail, Sabah's COVID-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun announced that the new Mawar Cluster began from a family reunion dinner at a private home in Sandakan on 12 February.
The cluster's index case went for COVID-19 screening at a private clinic on Monday, 22 February, after developing symptoms.
After testing positive the next day, the patient's close contacts were traced and they were all found to be her family members
"We then screened her close contacts, who were all related to one another, and 14 of them tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number in this new cluster to 15," Masidi said.
It is understood that all 15 family members had attended the gathering, New Straits Times reported.
Including the cluster, Sabah recorded 94 new infections on Tuesday, 23 February. Malaysia recorded a total of 2,468 new cases.
Sabah is currently placed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until 4 March
Masidi also stressed that interdistrict travel is still not allowed, barring emergencies and those related to work.
The only people allowed to enter the state are Sabahans, individuals whose spouses are Sabahan, Malaysian citizens holding valid long-term passes issued by the Sabah Immigration Department, and non-Malaysians conducting essential services.
The only people allowed to travel out of Sabah are emergency cases and those conducting essential services, with medical needs, or with permission from the police.
