Four suspects have been arrested over a high speed chase in Johor that led to the death of a policeman

New Straits Times reported that three men and one woman were nabbed in a series of raids in Kampung Melayu Seelong and Kampung Melayu Pandan by the Johor Bahru South Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday, 1 November.

Johor police chief CP Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspects, aged between 24 and 29, all tested positive for methamphetamine and two of them have records for previous drug offences.

In the early morning accident on Sunday, 20-year-old Const Nicholester Dadup Unggat was killed when the patrol car overturned during the car chase

Nicholester died at the scene while his partner, who was driving the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), L/KPL Mohammad Fadhirul Musa, 32, was severely injured and is undergoing treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Both policemen were chasing a Perodua Myvi after they found two suspects acting suspicious and ignored their orders to stop.

During the chase, the MPV grazed the Myvi and flipped over before colliding with a Perodua Aruz.

The police tracked down the suspects after finding the Perodua Myvi abandoned at the side of the road in Johor Jaya, almost 7km away from the accident site

They recovered two bottles in the car that had been modified into drug paraphernalia.

"The woman is a single mother of two and works at a factory. She admitted to taking drugs three days earlier with the three men, one of whom is her boyfriend," said Ayob Khan at a press conference on Monday, 2 November.

The police chief said the woman rented the vehicle from a car rental company and the four of them used it to buy drugs. However, she was not in the car during the incident.

The four will be remanded until Thursday, 5 November, to facilitate investigations

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless and dangerous driving, Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing the police, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957 for consuming drugs.

Meanwhile, the remains of the late Nicholester was brought back to his hometown in Sibu, Sarawak to be laid to rest

According to Bernama, the 20-year-old only recently completed his police training in Kuching, Sarawak in May this year, and was posted to Johor soon after.

The deceased's 76-year-old grandfather, Salang Kaya, said his grandson had always wanted to be a police officer since he was young.

The constable's funeral will be held at the Nirvana Memorial Park cemetery in Sibu on Thursday, 5 November.
