Members of the public rescued an eight-year-old boy who climbed onto a window ledge of a condominium building in Ampang, Selangor on Friday, 16 September

According to New Straits Times, residents at Bella Vista Condominium in Ampang Jaya noticed the boy on the outside of the fourth floor of the building around 4.40pm.

It is believed the local boy was attempting to escape his allegedly abusive uncle and aunt through the window as he was locked in a room.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the boy was rescued by the condominium residents and security guard before his men arrived at the scene

"The incident was noticed by the public and [they] alerted the security guard. The guard then broke the door open before the firemen arrived. The child was rescued and the case has been handed over to the police," he said when contacted on Friday.

"We ensured that the boy was safe. He was given early treatment before he was handed over to the police."

The rescue team found multiple bruises on the boy's back, legs, and arms.

Police later found that the victim's six-year-old sister also had bruises on her body.

The authorities have since detained the siblings' uncle and aunt over the alleged abuse

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the husband and wife were detained at 6pm on the same day and will be in remand for seven days to assist in investigations.

"The remand order on the two suspects, aged 29 and 33, was issued by Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top in the Ampang Jaya Magistrate's Court," he said when contacted by Bernama.

The two siblings had been placed under the care of the suspects since the death of their biological father two years ago. The female suspect is their mother's younger sister.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
