In a Facebook post published last night, 30 October, he said that he received the gift after King Salman's visit to Malaysia in February 2017, but had never opened it until he left the Cabinet.

"In honour of King Salman Abdulaziz for this very meaningful gift, His Majesty's command to always be modest, prioritise the unity of the ummah, and uplift the religion will always be embedded in my heart.

"To uphold the order and celebrate the Saudi Arabian Government's commitment to donate billions of dollars to Palestine every year, I would like to open a bid for my beloved Rolex watch with a starting price of RM40,000. Increments will start at RM100 and above," Dr Zulkifli wrote, adding that the bidding would end before midnight today, 31 October.

Hundreds of netizens thanked Dr Zulkifli for the thoughtful effort in providing assistance to Palestinians enduring the consequences of the ongoing war.

"Congratulations, Dr (Zulkifli). I just wanted to bid, but the price has gone up to over RM100,000. It's out of my budget," read a comment.

"It's good that wealthy people are able to buy (the Rolex) while they are donating as the money will be given to Palestinians," wrote a Facebook user.

"Allahuakhbar, may this donation be considered as a good deed and will be beneficial for Palestinians. Congratulations to our teacher," said a netizen.
