Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah just announced that there are 88 new cases of COVID-19 today, 24 April

During the press conference announcing the daily COVID-19 updates, he said that this brings the number of cases in Malaysia to a total of 5,691.

Meanwhile, only 1,932 out of the total are active cases.

A total of 3,663 patients have been discharged from hospitals since the disease was first identified in the country

Within the past 24 hours, 121 patients have fully recovered.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has been recording a stable increase in the number of cured patients.

"Phase three of the Movement Control Order (MCO) has shown a trend of containing the virus without any drastic increases. This has truly helped MOH to continuously have the ability to identify, screen, and treat COVID-19 cases," said Dr Noor Hisham.

"Therefore, the MCO extension is well received by the MOH."

The latest patient to die of the novel coronavirus in Malaysia had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease

According to MOH, the patient was a 61-year-old man who was being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

In total, Malaysia has recorded 96 deaths.

On the other hand, there are currently 41 patients receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units, with 18 of them requiring breathing assistance.
