The police are investigating a viral video that shows a man violently attacking a woman at a hotel in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan

According to the New Straits Times, the man and the woman are believed to be a married couple.

Port Dickson district police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the police are aware of the video that has been widely circulated on social media.

"Yesterday, 19 June, a 31-second video went viral on the Wa Fans Facebook page showing a man beating a woman in a hotel building.

"Investigations found that the incident took place on 24 May at around 9.50am at a hotel in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, and the altercation involved a married couple," he said in a statement today, 20 June.

Aidi Sham revealed that the incident was likely caused by the husband's infidelity and his stay at a hotel.

The video begins with the woman entering a four-star hotel before heading to a room believed to be on the ninth floor

The woman knocks on the door, and in the next scene, the man violently attacks the woman, dragging her across the hallway by pulling her hair.

The district police chief said the victim lodged a police report regarding the incident, which is currently being investigated under Section 323/18A of the Domestic Violence Act

Citing sources, Aidi Sham said the victim had just finished her postpartum period and went to the hotel, where the assault occurred.

"The police advise the public not to make the incident viral as it could disrupt the investigation and cause public unrest," he added.
