Six individuals, including a two-year-old girl, were trapped inside a lift at a condominium in Lengkok Thamby Abdullah, Brickfields, when it plunged down from the eighth floor on Friday, 14 October

11 firefighters from the Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue station rushed to the scene when they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9.52pm, reported Bernama.

Two victims, a man and a woman, broke their legs when the lift crashed to the ground floor

The two victims were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

"The rescue operation ended at 11.35pm and the cause of the incident is still under investigation," said the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department in a statement released on Saturday, 15 October.

Residents of the condominium said the event was a nightmare

A resident who did not want to be identified said that this was the first time something like this had happened in the building since the 70s, reported New Straits Times.

The resident added that the lift would get stuck every now and then, but this incident caught everyone off guard because they had not expected it to happen.

"We (the residents) have never failed to pay the monthly maintenance fees. However, the incident seemed likely due to a failure during the lift inspection. We hope the responsible party will conduct a detailed inspection to avoid a recurrence," said the resident.
