KL Mall Apologises After Christmas Decoration Falls And Injures A Singaporean
The Singaporean man was celebrating Christmas with his family at the mall.
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has apologised after Christmas decorations suspended from the mall's ceiling fell on a Singaporean customer
The incident occurred yesterday, 25 December, when 44-year-old Julius Lee was taking photos of his family at the concourse of the mall, reported Harian Metro.
Lee was at the mall to celebrate Christmas with his 39-year-old wife, Aileen Tan, and their three-year-old daughter.
"My husband was outside the merry-go-round to take a picture of me and my daughter. Suddenly, the Christmas tree decorations fell. It was a surprise that I didn't expect at all. It happened very quickly.
"Fortunately, my child was with me. If she was in the stroller [near my husband], she would have been hit too. [My daughter] was shocked and kept crying [after the incident]," she told Harian Metro.
Based on photos published by the local daily, it appears that a section of the Christmas tree became detached from the rest of the holiday decorations hanging on the ceiling before falling onto the man.
Tan said her husband had swelling on his head and was taken to a clinic by the management of the shopping centre.
In a Facebook post last night, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur issued an apology statement
"We express regret for an incident that took place at noon today (25 December) in which a Christmas tree branch fell and made contact with a shopper.
"Our medical and safety team promptly responded, accompanying the shopper to the nearest clinic for immediate medical attention. The shopper had a minor graze and appreciated the prompt action from the management.
"We are in communication with him and his family to ensure his wellbeing," read the statement.
The statement also mentioned that the Christmas tree area had been immediately cordoned off for the safety of shoppers, and that a thorough check would be conducted.
