A young woman in Thailand narrowly escaped serious injury after colliding headfirst with a pole while leaning out of a moving train

The incident occurred as the 19-year-old passenger attempted to shoot a video for social media, according to a statement released by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) yesterday, 13 August.

Multiple videos of the incident have gone viral after they were posted by SRT.

In the first video, the passenger can be seen standing at the edge of the doorway of the moving train. She is seen gripping the handrails as she faces outside while leaning out.

She then turns to face the person recording the video and stretches her arm to lean out way past the doorway. Moments later, she collides with a pole, causing her to stumble.

While she initially manages to hold on to the handrails, she eventually loses her grip and falls onto the platform between the tracks, according to a second video of the incident.

The woman, fortunately, suffered only minor injuries

The incident, which took place on 5 August at Phatthalung Station, left the woman with a swollen and bruised head and a finger injury. She was discharged from the hospital the same day.

According to SRT, the only reason the woman's injuries were not severe was that the train was moving slowly out of the station at the time. However, the agency condemned her actions as "reckless", noting that they could have resulted in far more severe consequences, including death.

The SRT emphasised that the passenger was attempting to "create online content".
