The Finance Ministry has announced a significant increase in the retail prices of unsubsidised fuel in Peninsular Malaysia, effective from 21 to 27 May

According to the New Straits Times, the price of unsubsidised RON95 petrol will rise by 20 sen, bringing the cost to RM4.07 per litre from RM3.87 previously.

Similarly, the price of diesel in the peninsula will increase by 10 sen to RM4.97 per litre, up from RM4.87.

The adjustment also affects RON97 petrol, which will see a 15 sen increase, setting the new price at RM4.85 per litre compared to RM4.70 previously.

The ministry clarified that these price changes are determined by the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula

This system calculates retail rates based on the average global oil prices recorded during the preceding week.

While market-driven prices are rising, the government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining targeted subsidies for specific sectors and the general public.

The price of subsidised BUDI95 RON95 remains capped at RM1.99 per litre

Additionally, diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, along with fuel under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS), will stay at RM2.15 per litre, while the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) is maintained at RM2.05 per litre.

In light of these fluctuations, the government has urged the public to practise prudent fuel consumption. Authorities emphasised that careful usage is essential to help ensure the long-term stability of the nation's fuel supply.
