Rosmaini Abd Raof has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting his then-pregnant wife, leaving her in a coma in 2021

According to Bernama, the 41-year-old was sentenced by Judge Fatimah Zahari of the Johor Bahru Sessions Court after the prosecution proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

He was convicted under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a fine. The charge was read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which doubles the maximum prison term.

Rosmaini was charged with repeatedly assaulting his wife, Jahidah Nordin, 46, on 17 June 2021

He was accused of striking her head, face, and hands, and kicking her back at an apartment in Kampung Aman, Larkin, on 4 May 2021.

At the time of the assault, Jahidah, his third wife, was pregnant.

While still in a coma, she gave birth to a baby boy via caesarean section on 30 November, 2021.

Jahidah Nordin has been left bedridden following the assault.

Lawyers Muhammad Hazeem Mohd Norizan and Syufri A. Samad, representing Jahidah's family, were also present.

Jahidah's sister, Fauziah, expressed relief and gratitude, noting that the three-year wait for justice had finally come to an end

She also hoped for Jahidah's quick recovery and the wellbeing of her child.

"Syukur Alhamdulillah, the case has been resolved today. From now on, we will continue with our lives as usual and care for Kak Jahidah.
