"Child's Play" — Man Tries To Rob Store With Toy Gun But Cops Nab Him In 30 Minutes
Two police teams were dispatched before the suspect was successfully arrested.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly trying to rob a goldsmith shop with a toy gun in Ipoh, Perak
The suspect, who is originally from Seremban, entered the shop on Jalan Sultan Iskandar at 2pm on 6 December, claiming he was interested in buying a gold chain.
"After seeing the chain, the suspect grabbed it before aiming his toy gun at the shop employee," Ipoh district police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan told The Star.
The man then quickly fled the scene.
Two policemen were dispatched from the Pasir Puteh station after the crime was reported, whereupon they saw the suspect being chased down the street by several people
Another team of policemen was dispatched from the Pekan Baru police station to aid in the operation. The suspect was eventually arrested near Jalan Dato Onn Jaafar.
"During the arrest, we also seized the plastic toy pistol in the suspect's sling bag," Yahaya added.
The case was resolved within 30 minutes.
The alleged robber was remanded and the case is being investigated under Sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery.
